The Climatology Laboratory at the University of Alicante (UA) is a leading centre in the study of atmospheric phenomena and climate change. This centre plays a significant role in environmental education on important phenomena such as DANA or droughts.
This is partly due to the wealth of information it gathers, as every five minutes, the Laboratory provides an updated record of the atmospheric situation. It is equipped with two automated meteorological stations that receive comprehensive information on all types of atmospheric variables. It also has more traditional equipment to measure temperature, humidity, solar radiation, wind, pressure, and precipitation.
To disseminate all its contributions, the Laboratory has become the focus of the new video series "Science at UA" (#CienciaUA), produced by UA Divulga, the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+I), under the Vice-Rectorate for Transfer, Innovation and Scientific Dissemination.
On its social media, you can find public interest information with advice for risk situations. In fact, these channels have become a great network of citizen science, where society itself captures meteorological phenomena and makes inquiries.
In addition to research and dissemination, the Laboratory carries out teaching work and offers internships to students of degrees related to geography, and receives annual visits from numerous secondary schools across the province.
The "Science at UA" series is produced and carried out by the Communication Unit and the Image Workshop of the UA, with the support of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), under the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
For the making of this video, the team has collaborated with and received advice from the director of the Climatology Laboratory and Professor of Regional Geographic Analysis at UA, Jorge Olcina, and researchers Esther Sánchez and Javier Martí. Each video is available on UA Divulga's social media, on the following website, and on RUA, the Institutional Repository of UA.
