The Civil Guard is investigating three Spaniards for allegedly committing a traffic safety offence after sharing videos on social media where they performed reckless stunts with their vehicles on mountain roads in the province of Alicante.
The investigation was carried out by the Investigation and Analysis Group of the Traffic Division of the Civil Guard (GIAT) in the Alicante Traffic Subsector after spotting several cars driving recklessly on social media. The incidents occurred at the end of January this year, on sections of the CV-70 and CV-720, between La Nucía and the Confrides pass, areas particularly frequented by cyclists and motorcyclists due to their characteristics.
The images had been altered to prevent the identification of the vehicles, but thanks to the officers' investigative work, three cars and their drivers, three Spanish men aged between 19 and 35, were located.
The drivers are charged with reckless driving, for performing manoeuvres that endangered both their safety and that of other road users. Additionally, one of them had no valid driving license due to having exhausted all assigned points, and is also being investigated for a traffic safety offence for driving without a valid license due to total points loss, which carries a penalty of three to six months in prison, a fine of 12 to 24 months, or community service of 31 to 90 days.
The offence of reckless driving is covered under Article 380 of the Penal Code and carries penalties of six months to two years in prison, as well as the deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for a period of one to six years.
