The facilities of Ciudad de la Luz in Alicante have been the setting for a very special visit. Actor Fele Martínez, accompanied by his brother Paco Martínez, director and producer of the short film 'Huele a Don Miguel', as well as actor Jorge Roelas and other team members, toured the Alicante audiovisual complex. During the visit, Fermín Crespo, general director of the studios, provided details about the features and facilities of the complex, highlighting its capacity to host large-scale productions.
The short film, written and directed by Paco Martínez, is a co-production between him, Miguel Gascón and Sara Aguilera. The story focuses on the figure of poet Miguel Hernández during his days behind bars, and will be performed by Micky Molina. Jorge Roelas and Fele Martínez portray Pedro and Ortín, two of the guards who watched over the poet, while Al Fernández and Raúl Martínez complete the cast in the roles of the other two guards.
The filming of 'Huele a Don Miguel' will not be confined to Ciudad de la Luz. This Sunday and Monday, the team will move to Orihuela to shoot in several iconic locations such as Miguel Hernández's house, Teatro Circo 'Atanasio Die' and the Civil War air raid shelter. Additionally, scenes will be filmed at Santa Bárbara Castle, the Esplanade, and Benalúa Prison in Alicante, as well as Elche's palm grove. These locations, deeply connected to the life and work of the poet, will provide significant historical and emotional context to the short film.
The visit of the 'Huele a Don Miguel' team to Ciudad de la Luz underscores the importance of these facilities in the Spanish audiovisual landscape. The Alicante studios have hosted other major productions. Renowned director Juan Antonio Bayona chose these facilities to shoot scenes for his latest film, and the team of the popular series 'The Walking Dead' also used the complex to film some of its impactful scenes, which also received a visit from Carlos Mazón, President of the Generalitat Valenciana.
Moreover, Ciudad de la Luz has hosted other notable productions such as the series 'La Ley del Mar', starring Blanca Portillo and Luis Tosar; the blockbuster 'Sharks in Paris', directed by Xavier Gens; and the third installment of the Venom saga.
