One of the objectives of Thierry Koskas, CEO of Citroën, was to ensure that their affordable electric model, the C3, would be manufactured in Europe. Now, the new compact car will roll off the production lines in Kragujevac, located in central Serbia.
Following an agreement between Stellantis and the Ministry of Economy of the Balkan country, the factory was modernised between 2022 and 2024 to accommodate the new 'Smart Car' platform and promote the production of electric models.
The French firm has highlighted that the plant employs over 1,000 people and boasts a "high level of quality and productivity," supported by modern, automated, and robotised production lines.
In this regard, Stellantis has emphasised that this industrial choice is "crucial to enable the company to offer a compact, versatile, and affordable model produced in Europe."
The starting price of the ë-C3 in Spain is €22,590, excluding incentives from the Moves plan. With these incentives, it is possible to access this model with a range of 320 kilometres for €15,590.
"Everything in the C3 has been designed to allow for an attractive pricing position, from the simplicity of its style to the choice of its industrial location, from the new Smart Car platform it inaugurates, to the onboard equipment," the company noted, adding that this new model aims to make the car an "accessible object of freedom, oriented towards the energy transition, but without compromising comfort, design, and versatility of use."
Furthermore, Citroën has indicated that the new C3, despite not reaching European sales points until the last quarter of 2024, has already accumulated over 130,000 orders, placing it third in the French and Italian markets by the end of the first quarter of 2025 and second in electric car sales in France.
Finally, Stellantis has highlighted that production in Serbia complements the production at the Trnava plant in Slovakia, which also hosts the New C3 Aircross, currently being launched.
