There has been talk about the automotive industry, steel, iron, chips, and even the food industry, but the so-called "reciprocal tariffs" are also echoing in the video game industry. The new levies are already being felt by console and game enthusiasts, not in their wallets, but directly in the stores.
The trade war initiated by Donald Trump after Liberation Day has left American gamers without one of the major entertainment sector bets for 2025: Nintendo has decided to pause pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 in the United States.
While the rest of the world can already place their orders, the residents of the North American country still have no date for it, and the reason is "to assess the potential impact of tariffs and changing market conditions," according to the Japanese company.
However, this measure - pausing pre-orders - is expected to be temporary, as the shipping date remains unchanged: June 5th. With that timeline in mind, the window to open pre-orders is not very wide.
