The 'Cities of Light' exhibition, featuring Ákra Leuké, Lucentum, and Laqant, will remain in Alicante for an additional four months. The Marq has extended the exhibition's stay until September 7th, driven by "the excellent public response."
The exhibition has reached 19,000 visitors three months after its opening. Consequently, the initially planned closure date in May has been postponed.
'Cities of Light' is a self-produced exhibition, occupying the largest area in the history of the Marq. It begins in the 'Waves in the Sky' space and spans the three temporary rooms, the main corridor, and the museum's library.
The tour illustrates the succession of ancient settlements that inhabited the La Albufereta area of Alicante, using the archaeological site of Tossal de Manises as a central theme.
Of the 19,000 people who have visited, the ranking of international origins is led by visitors from Eastern countries, followed by the UK, America, Nordic countries, France, the Netherlands, and Germany.
Regarding national origins, beyond those from the province of Alicante, visitors from Madrid are the most numerous, followed by those from Castilla La Mancha, Valencia, Andalusia, and Castilla León.
The archaeological site of Tossal de Manises is the backbone of this exhibition, focusing on the research, restoration, enhancement, protection, and dissemination of the site, which has become a socialized space open to the public.
'Cities of Light' is curated by Manuel Olcina, director of the Marq, Rafael Pérez, director of the Architecture Area of the Diputación, and the Archaeology technicians of the C.V. Marq Foundation, Eva Tendero and Antonio Guilabert.
Promoted by the Diputación de Alicante through the Archaeological Museum of Alicante and the C.V. Marq Foundation, the 'Cities of Light' exhibition has collaborated with around thirty Spanish cultural entities, including museums, archives, and foundations, which have lent part of their collections, pieces, and materials for public display, alongside those of the provincial institution that the Marq safeguards.
