Betis' European dream will have to wait. A swift comeback by Chelsea in the second half, led by the exceptional talent of Cole Palmer, dashed the verdiblanco team's hopes of a title that seemed within reach for over an hour thanks to a collective display of faith. For 60 minutes, the Heliópolis team dreamed, thanks to their successful pressing and commendable work off the ball, but their fortress crumbled in half an hour under the 'blue' iron fist, showcasing the reason behind the club's lavish financial investment in London.

The talent acquired through financial means and experience prevailed over the enthusiasm in a duel between a team facing one of the most significant matches in its history, the unexpected opportunity to lift a European trophy, and a giant with up to nine international titles.

The first glimpses of the most anticipated players soon appeared, Betis' Isco and Chelsea's Palmer, but the first decisive moment came from the Malagueño. Betis stole the ball, the '22' received it at the edge of the box, surveyed the surroundings, feigned a shot but ultimately spotted Abde's favourable position, who decided with his left-footed strike from the left flank.

Chelsea

Jorgensen, Gusto (James, min. 46), Chalobah, Badiashile (Colwill, min. 61), Cucurella, Caicedo, Enzo Fernández, Neto (Sancho, min. 61), Palmer (Guiu, min. 87), Madueke and Jackson (Dewsbury-Hall, min. 80).

  • Goals: 1-0: min. 9, Abde. 1-1: min. 65, Enzo Fernández. 1-2: min. 70, Jackson. 1-3: min. 83, Sancho. 1-4: min. 91, Caicedo.

  • Referee: Irfan Peljto (Bosnia and Herzegovina). Yellow cards for Badiashile, Palmer, Sancho, Antony and Perraud.

  • Incidents: Conference League final held at Stadion Wroclaw.

Buoyed by the lead, Betis stifled the English ball movement. Chelsea struggled immensely to surpass the first line of verdiblanco pressure, a bottleneck that almost led to another setback with Bartra's shot saved by Jorgensen. Cardoso also had a chance, though his finish was far from precise.

Chelsea tried to recover with possession, but Betis' impeccable tactical work, extraordinary in their defensive positioning, denied any English opportunity beyond a wayward shot from Neto. Isco, always so decisive in the offensive phase, delivered a true exhibition in the dirty work. There is no better example than the one called to make the difference, a true symbol of the commitment with which Betis approached the final.

Betis reached halftime with barely a scratch, aside from some doubts from Adrián in his outings, and they took the pulse of the restart in the same vein. The worst news was the injury to Abde, the most vertical player of the first half. Isco's magical touches continued to adorn the final, and only a bit more from Antony was missing to round off the verdiblanco final.

Turning Point

The night seemed ideal for Betis, but the verdiblanco dream began to shatter past the hour mark when Betis definitively opted to defend their narrow lead and became disjointed against Chelsea's push, ultimately changing the course of the final. The English side found the solution to their problems through Palmer's quality, who crafted a precise cross and Enzo Fernández's arrival, who gratefully nodded his teammate's extraordinary service into the heart of the Betis area.

It was the turning point. The ground trembled beneath Betis' feet, and all their certainties vanished. With no time to recover, Palmer once again showcased his devilish talent to craft another assist from the right flank, which the unorthodox Jackson capitalised on in his style, with a fortunate chest finish.

It was a double blow in just five minutes, leaving Betis with no response. Maresca doubled down with Jadon Sancho, another natural talent, and the Englishman, as irregular as he is occasionally game-changing, sealed the final by placing his shot in the top corner. Caicedo's late goal was just another dagger in the heart of a team that did not deserve such punishment and will try to dry their tears from Wroclaw in the next edition of the Europa League.
