Barcelona has found a lifeline in the Champions League. The Catalan club, still navigating a turbulent financial situation, has achieved great success in the top continental competition, translating into financial rewards that go directly to the treasury overseen by Joan Laporta. The club could receive up to 90 million euros after completing the first phase, a new 'lever' that Barcelona eagerly anticipated and aims to increase by the end of the season.

The new Champions League format brings even more financial benefits for participating clubs that achieve victories. Barcelona already pocketed 18.62 million euros for being one of the 36 participants in the competition, a bounty that has grown with each match. Each of the six victories achieved by Hansi Flick's team has brought in 2.1 million euros, reaching a total of 12.6 million. This amount increased after the significant win against Benfica, which secured direct qualification to the round of 16, a stage that guarantees an additional 11 million euros for each of the 16 teams participating, along with a guaranteed bonus of two million euros for being among the top 16.

Barcelona's bounty in this Champions League does not end there. The new format includes 36 shares, one per team, worth 275,000 euros, which increase depending on the team's position in the standings. The last-placed team multiplies this amount by one, while the leader multiplies it by 36. Barcelona is currently second in the table, potentially receiving an additional 9.625 million euros, and could even reach 9.9 million, which, pending the final matchday, would go to Liverpool, who have won all their matches.

The rewards do not stop there. The Champions League also features a 'Market Pool' fund distributed at the end of the season. This system allocates a sum of money to each country among its participants based on sponsorships and television rights, considering the club's results over the past five seasons and the coefficient of the last ten. The total sum for Barcelona in this category is 34.2 million euros, which would be added to the other categories, reaching a total of 88 million euros before the last match of the regular Champions League phase. If Barcelona defeats Atalanta next Wednesday, they would add another 2.1 million euros to reach 90 million in prizes.

The road to the final

The strong performance shown by Barcelona this season in crucial matches has given hope to Joan Laporta, who knows the Champions League is a goldmine until the end of the season. The club's president has high hopes for this competition, and the remaining prizes justify his optimism. Reaching the quarter-finals means an additional 12.5 million euros, reaching the semi-finals 15 million, and the coveted final 18.5 million.

At the Allianz Arena, where the final will be held this year, the winner will receive 10.5 million euros. In total, winning the most prestigious club trophy could bring up to 146 million euros to the club's coffers. It is the most coveted 'lever' for Barcelona fans.
