The works at the Central Station of the Tram d'Alacant will begin in just a few days, once the preliminary administrative procedures are completed, and will transform the surroundings. These works will connect Luceros with the railway terminal, creating the first step of the future Intermodal Station of Alicante. The awarded budget is 102 million euros (including VAT) and the expected execution period is 52 months, although the Infrastructure Minister, Vicente Martínez Mus, hopes they will be completed by the end of the current legislature.
The preliminary works include enclosing the area directly affected around the Adif parking lot "to ensure the safety of pedestrians and vehicles," explain sources from the regional department. During the first months, the work will affect the main entrance area of the current vehicle access to the station parking from Salamanca Avenue, which will be closed. This will render the passenger loading and unloading area located before the parking access unusable.
Therefore, once the works have started, passenger loading and unloading will take place on the same Salamanca Avenue, at the main entrance of the Train Station, as a lane is being prepared on the same Salamanca Avenue, the one closest to the station. This measure will affect traffic, but it is already being implemented currently. However, it will be more controlled to try to minimize waiting time so as not to interfere with traffic, as circulation will not be stopped.

Meanwhile, access to the parking will temporarily be made from Alcalde Rafael Millà Santos Street, via Aguilera Avenue. The new parking lot is being set up in an unused area of Adif, opposite the municipal parking on Aguilera Avenue.
The new parking lot will be completed in 2025 and, in the meantime, the parking spaces will be occupied according to the needs of the work but ensuring that the number is never less than the current total between the two parking lots. In the development of these works, the protected elements of the surroundings such as the ficus trees and the Adif station building will be respected, and efforts will be made to minimize the impact on existing traffic and services on Salamanca Avenue.
All these actions are being coordinated with the Alicante City Council and Adif. The new central station of the TRAM d'Alacant will become the new major node of direct connection for the entire province of Alicante with the railway and high-speed station and metropolitan public transport, in the city center.
