The statements of an excited Cayetana Guillén Cuervo confirming the return of Amaia Montero, her great friend and godmother of her son, to La Oreja de Van Gogh have become a headache for the actress. In a slip, the president of the Spanish Academy of Performing Arts revealed that she had known about the Basque singer's return to the Donostian band for some time, even claiming that the news had made her cry with emotion. However, hours later, Cayetana issued a statement to clarify her remarks, in which she expressed being 'very sad'.
"In light of the impact of my statements about a supposed return of Amaia Montero to La Oreja de Van Gogh, I want to clarify what happened and apologise for any confusion that may have arisen. Nothing could be further from my intention," she wrote, explaining that her response was to a question that assumed the artist's return. "From the emotion, love, and deep admiration I feel for her, I responded excitedly, recalling a conversation between friends in which she expressed her desire to return to music, asking me not to let it spread because she didn't know when or how," she continued, concluding: "My response to the press was from innocence, excitement, and the love I feel for her. I deeply regret that my words have caused this entire situation."
"I feel very sad about what happened and apologise wholeheartedly," the statement concludes, which, despite having the best intentions, seems to have convinced no one.
