Drivers travelling through Alicante should exercise caution. The new speed cameras, which were in testing until this Thursday, are now operational and are issuing fines to all vehicles that violate traffic and speed regulations.
The Alicante City Council has launched four speed cameras, which are added to those already existing and operational in the city's network, further completing the list of speed control points distributed across the main roads and entrances.
After the data collection and calibration period, the speed cameras have been operational since early Friday, January 17th, aiming to improve road safety at Alicante's entrances and reduce vehicle speed at critical points and accident-prone areas.
The four new speed cameras installed by the City Council will fine vehicles exceeding 50 kilometres per hour on various roads in Alicante, just like the other devices.
Thus, there are eleven speed cameras and control points distributed across the main streets and avenues of Alicante city and San Juan beach, as well as the roads connecting these areas.
The new speed cameras in Alicante are located on Dénia Avenue, near Vistahermosa; on Elche Avenue, with three devices in San Gabriel, Euipo, and El Palmeral; Caja de Ahorros - at Ángel de la Guarda school - and in La Cantera, on Villajoyosa Avenue.
The equipment installed on the poles located on these avenues is interchangeable, unlike the fixed and operational speed cameras in other parts of Alicante such as University Avenue, Dénia Avenue - near La Goteta -, La Cantera, and Goleta Avenue in Cabo de las Huertas.
