Carlos Mazón reappears at the first mascletà of the Hogueras

President of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, was one of the unexpected guests at the first mascletà of the competition of Les Fogueres. The popular figure arrived at Luceros Square minutes before the display began, accompanied by the President of the Provincial Council of Alicante, Toni Pérez, and the Mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcala.

At the start of the parade, some shouts of "Mazón, resignation" were heard, which were easily drowned out by the music playing over the square's loudspeakers.

The president greeted each of the belleas del foc, Adriana Vico and Valentina Tárraga, and their ladies of honour. He also embraced the President of the Federació de Fogueres, David Olivares.

"Alicante is the gateway to the Valencian Community, once again the city opens to the world and does so as it knows best," the president highlighted. He also recalled that the city currently has a non-stop Tram service, the second year it has been in operation, and with 200 new parking spaces around the Adif station. "We strive to make it easier every day and for Alicante to be on equal footing with Valencia when it hosts the Fallas."

The president explained that he arrived at the last minute, having had an agenda in El Campello around noon, and is glad to have been able to share with the bellea del foc and her ladies of honour on this first day, which seems so special. He also left the door open to return on other days to the mascletà.

A presence that was not particularly welcomed by the Alicante left. PSOE, Compromís, and EU-Podem refused to appear in the traditional post-mascletà photograph with the pyrotechnicians.

Mazón thus breaks the mourning after the dana that kept him away from the mascletàs of the Fallas of Valencia during this 2025 and does so in his homeland, Alicante, where he also attended the displays last year.
