The couple from El Campello, who were wanted for their alleged involvement in the discovery of 13 tons of cocaine at the port of Algeciras, a haul also linked to the investigation against the head of the UDEF who hid 20 million euros in his home, have surrendered to the National Police in Madrid. This ends several months on the run, according to police sources.
The man and woman surrendered at a Madrid police station, where they were arrested due to national and European arrest warrants. They are linked to the fruit company that allegedly imported the container concealing the 13 tons of cocaine, considered the largest haul of this drug seized in Spain and the second largest in Europe by the Police and the Tax Agency.
Investigators had been searching for them since the drug was seized in November at the port of Algeciras and after they disappeared from the villa in El Campello where they lived with their underage daughter. The main hypothesis is that they went into hiding after being alerted to the police proceedings.
The investigation into this criminal network is led by the Central Court of Instruction No. 1 of the National Court, encompassing several companies allegedly linked to drug trafficking.
This investigation suggests that the network dedicated to drug trafficking had the assistance of Inspector Óscar S.G., former head of the UDEF in Madrid, who was imprisoned after being arrested along with his wife, also a national police officer. They hid 20 million euros within the walls of their home, as well as nearly a million in his office at the Superior Police Headquarters in Madrid.
The investigation also points to the former head of anti-money laundering of the Police in Madrid for allegedly collaborating with the drug trafficking network, by entering data into police computer systems about containers and companies.
In exchange for money received from the 'narcos', this police official used this mechanism to detect if they were the subject of other police investigations and could alert the leaders of the criminal group.
