Calpe Breaks Records with Lowest Unemployment Rate in 20 Years
Only 948 out of 26,637 residents are seeking employment in the town

Calpe's unemployment figures for April have been released by the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), showing 948 unemployed individuals, representing an 8.34% rate among a population of 26,637.
This marks the lowest unemployment figure in recent years, continuing a downward trend observed in previous years: 8.97% in 2024 (1,003 people), 9.19% in 2023 (995 people), 11.16% in 2022 (1,125 people), 15.15% in 2021 (1,509 people), and 20.95% in 2020, a year impacted by the pandemic, with 2,093 unemployed. The highest unemployment rate in the last two decades was in 2014, at 23.28%, with 2,055 unemployed among a population of 22,437.
Of the total unemployed in April 2025, 436 are men and 512 are women, with those over 45 being the most affected. By sector, 714 are in services, 126 in construction, 28 in industry, 5 in agriculture, and 75 with no previous employment.
The Calp Town Council views this positive trend as a reflection of ongoing economic recovery and local economic dynamism. The council reaffirms its commitment to continue developing active employment policies, training, and support for the business sector, especially in strategic areas such as services and construction.
