Callosa d'en Sarrià has completed the project draft to restore the iconic 'Poador' area, an initiative valued at 500,000 euros and funded by European Funds. The mayor of the Marina Baixa municipality, Andrés Molina, hopes it "will become a reality in a year and a half."
In a conversation with TodoAlicante, Molina emphasized that the 'Poador' "is an important heritage asset for the municipality" and recalled that it suffered damage in 2017, "when part of the roof collapsed." Now, thanks to this restoration project, "we will repair the roof and also expand the exhibition on the historical importance of water management in Callosa d'en Sarrià to highlight its value," the mayor added. If the planned timelines are met, Molina has stated that this renovation will be completed by the end of 2026.
Furthermore, concerning the main planned investments in Callosa d'en Sarrià, Andrés Molina also highlighted the rehabilitation of Plaça Quatre Carretes, where "the construction of a new fountain" is planned.
The current fountain, known as 'dels patos', has been experiencing repeated issues due to the high level of traffic that this central roundabout in Callosa endures daily. In fact, Molina explains, "many of the trucks passing through damage the fountain, so we have already commissioned a restoration project to build a new fountain," with a project that, if timelines are adhered to as initially planned, will commence work at the end of this year and conclude in 2026.
Regarding the investments already executed, the mayor highlighted the replacement of the pavement on the sidewalks of Jaume I Avenue, which "had very slippery tiles," a problem that, "with the new surface, we believe has been resolved."
The mayor also wanted to highlight the recovery of Fort de Bernia, whose first phase was completed at the end of last year, and noted that the Town Hall has already requested assistance from the Heritage Department to continue advancing in the subsequent phases of the Master Plan. "We were able to recover many arch areas and uncover the main entrance portico, and now we would like to completely reconstruct that door and recover the main moat," he announced.
In this regard, the Town Hall has also acted in the last two years on the recovery of the path connecting Fort de Bernia with the Fonts de l'Algar, the municipality's main tourist heritage. "It is the longest route, but the most beautiful and iconic," the mayor highlights.
