The Civil Guard has dismantled a gang of burglars consisting of four young individuals who allegedly ransacked several villas in a residential area of Calp. During one of the raids, they ate and drank alcohol in the living room of the house, according to investigation sources.
The investigation, named 'Operation Rabenka', was launched by the Calp Main Post following a series of burglaries recorded on January 6 and 8, coinciding with the Epiphany holiday. The criminals accessed the homes by forcing doors and windows with screwdrivers and similar tools, stealing cash, valuables, and, in one instance, consuming alcoholic beverages and food in the living room of one of the houses.
In the initial phase of the investigation, members of the Calpe Company identified one of the main suspects during a road check in the municipality. They found £180 in cash and other items in his possession, the origin of which he could not justify. It was later confirmed that the pounds came from one of the burglaries committed in a villa in the residential area.
After intensifying the investigation, the officers managed to link the suspects to at least four burglaries and a theft from a vehicle parked within a plot, all in the same residential area.
On January 8, the Civil Guard received a report of an attempted burglary in another villa in the Peñón de Ifach municipality. Several units were dispatched to the scene and arrested three of the perpetrators as they attempted to flee. Among them was the main target of the operation, who was found with a large screwdriver used to force entry into the properties, €195 in cash, and a knife. The following day, a fourth suspect was arrested.
In a second phase of the operation, it was discovered that part of the stolen money had been exchanged at a currency exchange establishment in Calp by a 21-year-old, who was investigated as a suspected receiver of stolen goods.
The four detainees, accused of four counts of burglary and one count of theft, were brought before the Court of Instruction No. 1 of Dénia. The judge ordered the imprisonment of the main perpetrator, a 25-year-old with numerous prior convictions for burglary and theft, who had allegedly obtained loot exceeding €6,000. The other three detainees were released with precautionary measures.
Additionally, the main perpetrator is charged with a burglary committed in an ice cream shop on December 31 and a criminal damage offence in a residential building on the night of December 25. The Civil Guard, although it has clarified the offences, continues to investigate to determine if this criminal group could be linked to other burglaries in the area.
