A British citizen will not have fond memories of his stay in Benidorm after suffering the theft of his mobile phone, which led to a £16,000 fraud through bank transactions. The two alleged perpetrators, two young men aged 19 and 20, of Algerian and Spanish nationality, have been arrested by the National Police. According to investigators, the suspects had monitored the victim beforehand to obtain the access number to the device and thus manage his accounts.

The police investigation began when a British citizen filed a report at the Benidorm Police Station, claiming that his mobile phone had been stolen the previous day. The victim informed the officers that, just hours after the theft, he noticed that unknown individuals had made several transfers and payments from his device, and even applied for loans in his name from his bank, amounting to a total of £16,000.

With all the information provided by the complainant, the officers of the National Police in Benidorm launched an investigation, identifying three individuals as recipients of the money extracted from the victim's bank account.

Interestingly, one of the recipients of part of the transfers turned out to be another victim of the two alleged perpetrators, as one of the 'modus operandi' used by such groups to hinder police work and trace the stolen money is to transfer funds to the account of a second victim and finally to their own accounts.

The operation concluded with the full identification of the two perpetrators, their location, and arrest by the officers for the alleged commission of a fraud offence. After conducting police procedures, all actions were referred to the Benidorm Magistrate's Court on duty.

The National Police advises against using personal codes on mobile devices when there are strangers nearby who might observe the pattern or number entered on the mobile terminal. Additionally, they recommend having a second password for banking applications to prevent unauthorized access to finances if the mobile falls into the wrong hands, potentially causing financial harm.
