In this unassuming Albuquerque house, synthetic drugs were produced, and all sorts of crimes were committed, including murder. It belonged to the White family, and for five seasons of Breaking Bad, their Piermont Street residence was the setting for the family drama of a sick, increasingly disturbed and evil man, a troubled child, and a woman who would soon play her pieces better than her own husband in the chess game of narcos and police confrontations.
Now it's for sale. With four bedrooms and two bathrooms, its 170 square metres are valued at 3.85 million euros (nearly four million dollars). Ten times more than the average price in the area. "This iconic property, known as Walter White's house from the groundbreaking television series Breaking Bad, offers an unparalleled opportunity to own a piece of television history," promotes real estate agent Sonya Ávila of the consultancy eXp Realty. "Recognised by millions of fans, it has become one of the most photographed and visited places in the world, a true symbol of the show's cultural impact."
The current owners, who have lived there since 1973, are tired of the flow of curious visitors treating their home as a tourist attraction. The three Quintana children grew up there, and the parents aged and passed away. The harassment, however, became so unbearable that they had to install metal fences and security cameras. "It's time to sell," said daughter Joanne to local television. "There's no reason to keep fighting." Memories remain, she says. Like the cookies her mother always made and gave to the cast since 2006, when the pilot episode of the AMC-produced series was filmed, which can be seen in Spain on the Netflix platform.
The promoters are prepared for a "flood of eager fans" wanting to see the place where actor Bryan Cranston portrayed a chemistry teacher who manufactured methamphetamine, although the property, in reality, is not much different from others in the neighbourhood. In fact, it was chosen precisely for being the typical middle-class house in New Mexico, United States.
Without debts to the bank, this "important pop culture" home and part of "television history" hits the market more than a decade after the series' final episode aired. According to its sellers, the price is justified by its "potential," and the buyer can choose to "preserve the legacy, transform it into a private retreat, or reinvent it."
This house, built in 1972 with a fireplace, pool, and two-car garage, but without a basement, is reached by "Wyoming and Comanche, turning north on Piermont; the house is located on the north side of the road." Jesse Pinkman would go there to find White, in his wild race to hell.
