Thirteen years later, a South American team defeated the reigning Champions League champion. Last night in California, Botafogo triumphed over Luis Enrique's PSG in the second round of the Club World Cup, achieving a historic feat that thrilled thousands of Brazilians in the stands. Unfortunately, the football was overshadowed by a brawl between fans of both teams.

A dozen fans wearing Botafogo jerseys - black and white stripes - and PSG jerseys clashed at one point during the match, exchanging punches while others watched in surprise. Interestingly, some fans with Mexican insignia - as Monterrey plays in California - chose to record the events or simply take a sip of the beer they held in hand.

The fight did not escalate and did not affect the course of the match. On the football field, one name stood out above all, Brazilian forward Igor Jesus, who scored a historic goal for South America at the 36th minute. The striker masterfully controlled a pass from midfield, outwitted the defenders, and sent the ball into the back of the net.

"Well, I think we 'killed' PSG with their own poison: being a great team. Playing together, everyone defending, everyone attacking, and that is the great secret of this PSG," said the visibly emotional Glorioso coach, Renato Paiva, to DAZN. Luis Enrique was also impressed by the opponent: "Botafogo has been the team that has defended us best all season (...) I think they have been very good."

This defeat for PSG puts Atlético de Madrid in a tight spot, as they must win by a large margin against Botafogo in the final round, assuming PSG does not falter against the Seattle Sounders. Simeone's side defeated the Americans (1-3), but the Brazilians' victory over PSG condemns Atlético in the event of a three-way tie.
