Brad Pitt has made intimate revelations to actor Dax Shepard on the Armchair Expert podcast about his time in Alcoholics Anonymous, an organization he turned to during the lowest point of his life. 'I was practically on my knees and very open to change,' he expressed. 'I was trying everything and everyone. Everything that was suggested to me. It was a difficult time. I needed to reset. I needed to wake up in some aspects. And it meant a lot to me,' he confessed.
'You don't join Alcoholics Anonymous because everything is going great. No. That's usually not the starting point,' he acknowledged. The divorce from Angelina Jolie was the turning point that led him to decide to quit drinking, and although he initially felt somewhat shy, he soon decided to trust and open up to the group. 'When I started therapy back then, I thought: "I did this, I did that"…[,] I was desperate,' he explained. He found a refuge in those meetings, and it became 'something I looked forward to.'
'When I've gotten into trouble, I'm pretty good at taking responsibility and facing the facts. And now it's a quest: What do I do with this? How can I fix it? And make sure it doesn't happen again,' he emphasized. Nearly ten years after beginning his journey to sobriety, his commitment remains intact, and he has found stability alongside Inés de Ramón, although he has not been able to fulfill his desire to rebuild the relationship with his children.
