The Book Fair Returns to Calp

The town offers a wide cultural programme from April 11 to 21

Calp is gearing up to host another edition of its traditional Book Fair, which this year celebrates its fifteenth edition from April 11 to 21, from 11:00 to 21:00. The event, organised by the Joanot Martorell Municipal Public Library and the Department of Culture, is supported by local bookstores Nou Art, J. Vázquez, and Librería Vázquez Such.

The fair, held in the Plaza Mediterráneo, will feature a large tent housing booksellers aiming to showcase both the latest literary releases and the great works of universal literature. Additionally, the fair will include parallel activities such as workshops, concerts, storytelling, competitions, exhibitions, and book presentations.

Program

The fair will open on Friday, April 11 at 18:00, featuring the inauguration of the permanent photographic exhibition "Retrospectives of Calp" by JackyCalp Ifac.

One of the main highlights will be the drawing contest "Books and Me", aimed at children aged 7 to 14, starting on Saturday, April 12. The contest seeks to foster young people's relationship with reading through artistic expression. The award ceremony will take place on Wednesday, April 16.

On Saturday, April 12 at 13:00, the book "Little Detectives: A Weekend" by Piedad Isabel Parra Garrido will be presented, followed by the storytelling "Pirate Adventure" by Grupo A Riure at 18:00.

On Sunday, April 13 at 12:00, the Workshop on Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse will be conducted by Nuria Ruiz and Neera Mascarell Rivas. At 18:00, Grupo A Riure will host Giant Games, followed by a guitar micro-concert by Alejandro González and Cristian Vázquez Such at 19:30.

On Monday, the programme continues with the presentation of the book "Morent" by José Luís Luri at 13:00 and "Kao Has Two Faces" by Andrea Roselló at 17:00. On Tuesday, April 15, the winners of the drawing contest will be announced, and at 18:00, there will be a book signing for "Cain's Brother" by Ramiro Pérez Mañagil.

On Wednesday, April 16 at 13:30, the drawing contest awards will be presented, followed by a storytelling and crafts workshop by Nuria Ruiz from Librería Nou Art at 18:00. On Thursday at 12:00, the book "Perhaps from the Window" by Sara Mañero Rodicio will be presented, with a children's mandala bookmark workshop by Grupo A Riure at 18:00, and a concert by students from the José Tomás Professional Conservatory of Alicante at 19:30.

On Friday, April 18, the day will start with a guitar macro-concert at 12:00 by students of Rosario Caselló and Cristian Vázquez. At 17:00, Estefanía Villar Soler will present the book "My Most Important Project is Me", followed by the presentation of "Improve Memory" by Sergio Ruíz Fuentes at 18:00. Finally, a rap concert by the group Jocin is scheduled for 19:00.

On the last Saturday of the fair at 11:00, attendees can enjoy an exhibition of philatelic publications from the 19th and 20th centuries. At 12:00, the book "Inside Ifac" by Rafael Terol will be presented, followed by "The Enigma of the Hidden Treasure" by Albert Alanzabes González at 17:00, and a talk on "Philatelic Literature Through the Years" by José Ivars Ivars at 18:30.

On Sunday, April 20, the day will begin with a mini-concert by the duo Amalgama featuring saxophonist Quico Bolo and guitarist Cristian Vázquez. At 18:00, Grupo A Riure will offer the activity Bicipinta Caligrama.

The fair will close on Monday, April 21 with the Games Workshop and the official closing ceremony at 14:00. The Calp Book Fair 2025 thus establishes itself as a space for cultural exchange, citizen participation, and the promotion of reading across all ages.
