The Civil Guard has confirmed the discovery of a man's body in an advanced state of decomposition between the Cuenca towns of El Picazo and Rubielos Bajos. The lifeless body was found in a remote and difficult-to-access ravine and belongs to a 43-year-old resident of Tarazona de la Mancha (Albacete), who visited El Picazo last Christmas to see a woman with whom he had a romantic relationship.
On December 23, while in the street of this village of 700 inhabitants, he was approached by two masked individuals who forced him into a van. "They abducted him in broad daylight in front of many people because there was a fruit market at that time and many people were shopping. They forcibly put him into a van while hitting him," stated El Picazo's mayor, José Miguel Collado, on Wednesday. Days later, on January 4, his family reported his disappearance.
The Court of Instruction number 2 of Motilla del Palancar (Cuenca) then opened an investigation and declared the case under secrecy. The autopsy will now reveal the cause of his death while the Civil Guard has launched an investigation to identify the two men who kidnapped him.
