Slight panic as the year begins in Alicante. A boat caught fire on the morning of January 1st in the city's port. An explosion in the engine, which started the fire, occurred as the recreational vessel was started.
Firefighters from the Alicante City Council's Fire Prevention, Extinction, and Rescue Service (Speis) received the alert at 12:50 PM this Wednesday. Three units with personnel and equipment were dispatched to the area.

The boat caught fire at one of the moorings on dock six of Alicante Port. Boats on either side were moved to prevent the fire from spreading to other vessels. However, one suffered some damage. According to TodoAlicante, there are no casualties or injuries to report.
As the boat was made of fibreglass, the flames were quickly extinguished and spread easily across the affected vessel. Consequently, it eventually sank during the fire.
The personnel who managed the boat fire placed anti-pollution barriers in the area to prevent potential spills in Alicante waters.
