Blow to Drug Trafficking in Elda: 327 Marijuana Plants Seized and Four Arrested

Officers from the National Police have dismantled a criminal organisation dedicated to the indoor cultivation of marijuana. The operation concluded with the dismantling of four marijuana plantations with 327 plants and the arrest of four individuals, three men and one woman, aged between 26 and 33, for drug trafficking, electricity fraud, and membership of a criminal group.

The police investigation began following numerous complaints from residents about disturbing noises at night and a strong smell of marijuana throughout the day. The information focused on two homes where a couple lived with their three children.

Throughout the investigations and surveillance conducted at the site, it was determined that the couple, along with another family member, was engaged in the indoor cultivation of marijuana plantations.

During the exploitation phase of the investigation and based on the gathered evidence, a search warrant was requested from the Judicial Authority for entry and search of the two investigated homes.

Following the search, two marijuana plantations in advanced stages of growth were found, with approximately 327 plants, as well as a sophisticated hydroponic system equipped with transformers, air devices, extraction units, and fluorescent lights, aimed at creating an optimal environment, temperature, and humidity for the rapid growth and flowering of the plants.

Efforts were also made with the electricity company to verify whether the two investigated homes were experiencing electricity losses or were illegally connected, with technicians confirming the existence of an illegal connection to the power grid.

The four detainees, after the completion of police procedures, have been brought before the duty courts of the town of Elda.
