Bitcoin has once again reached a new all-time high this Monday, hitting $109,228.6 (£105,327.3), with eyes set on the psychological barrier of $110,000 (£106,071) as Donald Trump prepares to return to the presidency of the United States for a second term.
However, around 2:50 PM Spanish peninsular time, the leading cryptocurrency tempered enthusiasm to $107,903.9 (£104,049.89), although it remained positive with a gain of 2.81%.
Investor euphoria over cryptocurrencies has remained high since last November, when the Republican defeated Democrat Kamala Harris in the elections.
During the election campaign, Trump promised to turn the United States into the "crypto capital of the planet" by advocating for the creation of a "national strategic reserve of bitcoins".
Additionally, on this same day, the incoming First Lady, Melania Trump, confirmed just hours before the inauguration ceremony the launch of her own 'meme' cryptocurrency, following in the footsteps of her husband, who did the same this past weekend.
