With Holy Week just around the corner, the province of Alicante is hoping to avoid rain during the major procession days. Rainfall is one of the biggest challenges for the brotherhoods, who strive to carry out their processions even in the rain.

In 2024, some processions had to be cancelled due to this unusual phenomenon in Alicante. This year, the brotherhoods are even more eager to enjoy Holy Week, although the current instability seems to pose another challenge. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has already warned of a new storm that will affect the entire Spanish territory.

Thus, Olivier will hit the Canary Islands hard in the coming days and will move towards the Peninsula by Thursday. In Alicante, rain is expected on Saturday and Sunday, although it may continue into Monday. Experts warn that the scenario for next week remains uncertain as they await Olivier's behaviour.

What seems clear from the start of the week is that Palm Sunday will be rainy in Alicante. Rain will begin early Saturday morning and continue throughout the day. On Sunday, showers will pause in the early hours but will return around noon, with a 30% chance in Vega Baja and 80% in the northern interior of the province.

Although all Holy Week enthusiasts in Alicante are alarmed by this forecast, it is important to remember that the situation is highly uncertain. Meteorologists will be able to specify the most affected areas by rain as the week progresses and determine whether Olivier's impact will extend beyond Sunday or if locals can enjoy Holy Week in all its glory.

The effect of this storm, which will be strongly felt in the province, will be a drop in temperatures noticeable in the highs from Thursday onwards. Towns like Alcoi or Dènia will say goodbye to 20 degrees for a few days.
