Just over 24 hours remain until the Palau d'Esports l'Illa de Benidorm hosts the first semi-final of the fourth edition of the Benidorm Fest. This event will determine Spain's representative for the Eurovision Song Contest, whose grand finale will be held on May 17 at the St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland, to which Spain has direct access.
As is customary, and perhaps necessary, the musical contest has already sparked the first rounds of 'eurodrama' on social media. These controversies only add a bit more spice to a competition where, as a major novelty this year, the public can vote for their favourite entries for free.
With the performances of the 16 semi-finalists yet to be seen on the Benidorm stage, and subsequently the final performances of the eight contenders for the Silver Microphone, betting houses have already identified one artist as the clear favourite to win.
According to the specialised portal 'Eurovisionworld', which annually monitors the movements of major betting houses that include the Benidorm 'euroevent' in their catalogues, Lachispa, with her song 'Hartita de llorar', is the public's top favourite with unanimous odds of two to one. This places her, according to the same ranking, with a 31% chance of securing the Spanish representation for Eurovision 2025.
Following the draw held this morning in Benidorm, Lachispa will be the seventh and penultimate act of the first of the two scheduled semi-finals. In fact, to see the other major favourite of the betting houses live, one will have to wait until Thursday, specifically for the last performance of that second gala.
This is because the song 'Esa diva' by Melody is the second most repeated option, with a profit margin of 2.75 to one and a 23% chance, according to the subjective ranking of the 'Eurovisionworld' portal, of winning the Silver Microphone.
Far behind the two aforementioned artists, J. Kabello's 'VIP' (fourth performance of the second semi-final) ranks third in terms of betting odds, with a profit margin of seven euros for every one bet and a 9% chance of victory. This is closely followed by Carla Frigo and her 'Bésame' (fifth proposal of the second gala), which currently offers nine euros for every euro bet and has a 7% chance of victory.
Behind them, in this order, the list is completed by DeTeresa with 'La Pena', the last artist with over a 5% chance of victory, followed by Daniela Blasco, Celine Van Heel, K!ngdom (all with a 4% chance of triumph), Chica Sobresalto, Sonia and Selena (both with a 3%), Mel Ömana, Lucas Bun, Kuve (2%), David Alfonso, Henry Semler, and Mawot (1%).
