The Best Recipes from Elche's Senior Superchef

The dish 'Zarzuela de pescado y marisco a mi estilo' crafted by Carmen Bru emerged as the winner of the VII edition of the Senior Superchef contest, organized annually by the Department of Childhood, Family, and Seniors. The event took place on May 27 and 28 at the Municipal School of Hospitality in Elche.

The second prize was awarded to Manuel Bazán for his dish 'Albóndigas de gamba y choco en su tinta', while María Miralles secured third place with her dish 'Migas'. The jury, comprising Susi Díaz and Chema García from La Finca; Noelia Pascual from Cachito; Fran Castell from Pastelería Castell; Carmen Canals from La Latería; Odón Martínez from El Granaino; Pedro Venteo, known as El Monochef; Ana Santoyo from Misteri d'Anna, and Guillermo Tornel from Mar i Merlot, made the decision.

The winner received a trophy, a meal for two at the Cachito restaurant, and a set of kitchen products valued at 200 euros. The runner-up was awarded a trophy, a meal for two at Mar i Merlot, and a set of kitchen products valued at 150 euros. Lastly, the third-place cook received a trophy, a set of artisanal products from Confitería Castell, and a set of kitchen products valued at 100 euros.

Aurora Rodil, the area councillor, remarked, "We have concluded the seventh edition of Senior Superchef with extraordinary success. The participants enjoyed two days of camaraderie and joy, showcasing their knowledge of Elche's gastronomy, which is one of our great treasures. All the dishes were extraordinary, and although there is a first place as in any contest, here everyone is a winner."

As in previous editions, the dishes created during the contest will be compiled into a cookbook, which will be distributed to all contestants once completed.
