Benissa has been chosen as one of the 40 pilot destinations at the European level to develop the future European Competence Centre for Data Management in Smart Tourist Destinations (DTI). The initiative aims to help tourist destinations use data analysis to become more competitive, resilient, and sustainable.
The selection of Benissa is part of a collaborative project involving 15 countries. It is the only destination selected from the province of Alicante and one of the few from the Valencian Community, where it shares representation only with Visit Valencia.
Virginia Pérez
Councillor for Tourism of Benissa
The candidacy has been driven by the Smart Office, managed by Sien Consulting, where the various impacts generated by tourism activity are monitored through the analysis of aspects such as mobility, tourist spending, and social media presence, contributing to improved decision-making in tourism.
Participation in this 12-month European project, which will conclude in January 2026, will allow Benissa to deepen its use of advanced methodologies and digital tools to enhance our management and sustainability practices. “This approach allows Benissa to position itself as a reference model in smart and sustainable tourism,” highlighted Virginia Pérez, Councillor for Tourism.
In the words of Arturo Poquet, mayor of Benissa, “betting on sustainable tourism is not just a strategy, but a way to care for our environment, our people, and our future.”
