Installed in the 1990s, the iconic light catenary of Benidorm's Levante Beach promenade had been deteriorating over time, leaving many sections in complete darkness. The city undertook an initial renovation phase, incorporating LED technology, which not only rejuvenated this emblematic ornamental feature but also introduced the ability to change light colours.

Following this initial phase, the tourist capital has commenced work on a new section, stretching from Europa Avenue to Metge Miguel Martorell Street. However, this project will be temporarily halted due to the summer season, as municipal officials explained, "to ensure that visitors to the area do not have to coexist with construction in a place experiencing a massive influx of people."

The decision was made after a meeting between municipal officials, the contractor (Elecnor), and the project management, according to Public Space Councillor Francis Muñoz. He specified that the work stoppage will last from June 12 to September 1.

This morning, an inspection took place to assess the work, as explained by the Public Space Councillor, who noted that "progress has been favourable." So far, the construction has coexisted with the pedestrian flow of the promenade, "but now a significant influx of tourists is expected, and the decision has been made to temporarily suspend the work to avoid compromising the safety of both the construction and pedestrians, while also protecting our tourism."

Muñoz highlighted that the work completed so far "will be integrated into the promenade, and before stopping, a layer of mortar will be placed on the column support points to allow passage over them. Additionally, fences and material stockpiles will be removed to make the promenade as functional and comfortable as possible."

Francis Muñoz, who clarified that the third phase of the catenary renovation project "is in the drafting stage," took the opportunity to "apologise for any inconvenience these works may have caused pedestrians, but the common goal is to complete them to have a renewed, functional, and iconic catenary."
