The General Directorate of Traffic has announced the opening of the annual application period for those wishing to participate in the selection tests to obtain the certificate of aptitude as a driving school instructor. This process, which will run until February 17, presents a unique opportunity for those aspiring to engage in road safety education.
Prospective instructors must pass a series of theoretical and practical exams related to road safety, traffic regulations, and pedagogy. Once these tests are successfully completed, they can work as instructors in driving schools, contributing to the education of new generations of drivers.
Given the high employment rate in this sector, the Professional Association of Training Companies in Logistics, Transport, and Road Safety, Formaster, has made an employment pool available to future instructors. This means that once they obtain their qualification, they will have access to numerous job offers in driving schools across the country. The average salary ranges between 25,000 and 30,000 euros.
The desired candidates are young individuals who enjoy driving, possess communication skills, are organized, patient, and have a passion for pedagogy and teaching. Therefore, those wishing to become Road Safety Instructors need to obtain the Road Safety Instructor Certificate issued by the DGT, alongside Trafikoa in the Basque Country and/or the Servei Català de Trànsit in Catalonia, or pursue the Higher Vocational Training Cycle in Safe and Sustainable Mobility. At the beginning of the year, the General Directorate of Traffic has just announced the call for applications, allowing interested individuals to apply. Thus, interested parties have until February 17 to submit their application.
Applicants must meet the following necessary requirements: possess the ESO title or a medium-level vocational training degree or demonstrate equivalent or higher studies, hold a valid class B driving license with a minimum of 2 years of experience, and meet the psychophysical and psychotechnical conditions currently required for group 2 drivers, those of class C or higher.
To obtain the driving school instructor title, one must complete a course consisting of a distance learning part and a second in-person part, each with elimination tests. The distance part will cover theory, where independent multiple-choice tests must be passed on topics such as rules and signals, road safety issues and accident rates, heavy vehicle regulations, transport of people and goods, car insurance, driving license regulations, and driving learning. To pass, the first test must be completely passed, with the possibility of a recovery test in the second. The interval between both evaluations will be at least two months.
Applicants who pass all subjects of the distance learning phase will proceed, in order of their obtained grades, to the in-person training. These courses, conducted by centers supervised by the DGT, last approximately 270 hours and cover more specific content from the previous phase's subjects but from a theoretical-practical perspective. Those who do not complete or pass the in-person phase may repeat it entirely, once, in a subsequent call.
If you are interested in this opportunity, you must access all the requirements and the selection process through the General Directorate of Traffic's website. From Formaster, efforts are made to assist students in obtaining the Driving School Instructor Title by organizing courses, tutorials, and talks according to the different phases of selection and preparing them with the highest quality to pass the various tests.
