Beatriz Seva, a nurse and Emergency Supervisor at Vithas Alicante and Vithas Medimar hospitals, participated in a healthcare cooperation mission in Senegal from August 22 to September 2, accompanied by her daughters, both medical students. This experience was made possible through collaboration with the international volunteer platform CC ONG.
For 12 days, Beatriz Seva and her family moved to the rural village of Gadiack, in the interior of Senegal, where they supported the local medical staff. In this area, marked by very limited healthcare infrastructure, the team worked in a medical dispensary serving the local population, providing assistance to children, adults, and pregnant women.
"The conditions are harsh and very precarious. Basic things like drinking water or a refrigerator are a utopia for them. The rural population works in the field harvest all day, along with caring for the animals they use and also raise. Infectious diseases in children and adults are very common due to the poor minimum hygienic conditions. Malaria, endemic and widespread in the country, is also a disease focus. The population is constantly reminded of the need to use mosquito nets, wash hands with soap, and shower daily, hydrate abundantly due to the heat and sun exposure from working so many hours.
Women are also made aware of using contraceptive methods and properly feeding their children," comments Beatriz. In addition to providing medical assistance, the mission also included health education workshops on good practices and disease prevention talks, essential to improving the health conditions of the population. The team also brought donations of clinical material to help meet the basic needs of the dispensary.

"The experience has been wonderful for all of us on a personal level. It makes you grow as a human being and value what is truly important in life. The people are kind and live happily with almost nothing. They have been extremely generous with us," assures Beatriz Seva, who highlights the personal and professional impact of participating in such a mission. Through their collaboration, the commitment to global health is reinforced, contributing to the well-being of vulnerable communities while experiencing a deep cultural immersion.
