La playa Cala Cerrada, located in the south of Alicante province, was closed on Wednesday, 2nd July due to contamination issues. The closure of the beach is a temporary and preventive measure following a report from the Department of Water and Environment indicating the water quality.
The report, issued by the Directorate General of Water on 1st July, reveals the presence of "residual origin contamination" in samples taken from this beach in Orihuela, located in the La Zenia area.
As a result, the Orihuela City Council has decreed the closure of this beach based on the results obtained from tests conducted by the Bathing Water Quality Control Programme, developed by the Department.
This precautionary measure aims to protect the health of swimmers. Thus, the Orihuela City Council has marked the closure of this bathing area until tests confirm that the discharge has been completely eliminated and water quality has been restored.
The Department of Water and Environment conducts these checks weekly, allowing preventive decisions to be made swiftly and effectively before problems can worsen.
The Orihuela Beaches Department insists that "efforts are being intensified and necessary actions are being coordinated" to resolve this beach closure situation "as soon as possible," in collaboration with the technicians from the Directorate General of Water.
"The goal is to ensure the reopening of Cala Cerrada Beach in the best conditions and with all safety guarantees for users," they state from the City Council.
