The Alicante City Council has pre-awarded Nerco Infraestructuras the restoration of the bastion of Santa Ana in the Castle of Santa Bárbara for 355,328 euros. This project is co-financed by the Department of Culture, contributing a total of 162,203 euros.

The works to be carried out include the renovation of the surface and pavement of the interior space of the bastion, as well as the restoration of the ramparts, parapets, and the crowning of the parapet wall, including its embrasures. Additionally, this intervention changes the use of the bastion of Santa Ana from parking to pedestrian area. The contract execution period is five months.

This action in the Castle of Santa Bárbara adds to a series of interventions already underway in the fortress aimed at its conservation, modernization, and improving the visitor experience, with investments exceeding three million euros.

The improvement of accessibility with a pedestrian path from La Ereta park and the redevelopment of the surrounding area is already underway. Additionally, the conversion of the old engineer's house into a Visitor Reception Centre will be executed. In terms of innovation, the project for musealization with virtual reality is being carried out, and the sensorization of the Castle, for which six companies have submitted bids, is about to be awarded.

At the same time, the project for the rehabilitation of the moat of l'Albacar d'Enmig and part of the Santa Caterina tower, the Coloma Tower, and the Poterna, as well as the bridge over the moat providing access to that area, has already been approved.
