Joan García is now the new goalkeeper for Barcelona. The Catalan club paid the €25 million release clause for the Spanish goalkeeper on Friday to terminate his contract with Espanyol and sign the 24-year-old shot-stopper. Joan García arrives at Barça to be the first-choice goalkeeper, with the exit door now wide open for Marc-André ter Stegen, despite the veteran 33-year-old German goalkeeper having a contract until 2028.
Barcelona seized the opportunity presented by Joan García following his outstanding season at Espanyol, where he was instrumental in securing the team's place in La Liga. The signing of Joan García was expected to be finalized next week, but events accelerated on Friday morning, and the player will be the Barça goalkeeper for the next six seasons, until 2031.
