This Tuesday morning, September 3rd, the Ibi Town Council presented the commencement of the new Street Cleaning Service contract for the town, awarded to the company Urbaser S.A., for an amount of 1,279,789.99 euros. The contract duration is set until June 2025 to coincide with the end of the current solid waste collection contract, thereby enabling the tendering of both services together to achieve synergies in joint provision, according to the Town Council.
Improvements will be made in the cleaning of industrial areas, shifting from only Saturdays to also include daily nighttime cleanings to facilitate execution during lower traffic hours. The human and material resources dedicated to cleaning will also increase. During events, a truck-mounted sweeper, portable toilets, and containers for both general waste and recyclables will be used. A new vehicle will be introduced for drain cleaning, and enhancements will be made in street washing and urine cleaning with a high-pressure hydro-cleaning team and a self-propelled scrubber.
For weeding tasks, a weed dehydrator will be used. One of the major innovations is the use of a vacuum scooter for dog excrement. The maintenance of litter bins will also see improvements. The implementation of the contract coincides with the start of the Moors and Christians festival activities. The cleaning staff will benefit from salary improvements, better rest days, and enhanced work-life balance, emphasized by the municipal government, which also noted that the workforce will increase by eight workers.
Elio Verdú, Deputy Mayor of Public Services, explained that "we are very pleased to finally launch the new contract. We are aware of the current needs regarding cleanliness and maintenance in our town and are eager to implement it as soon as possible with reinforced personnel and new machinery." On the other hand, Ibi’s Mayor Sergio Carrasco calls for public cooperation as "the care of our town also depends on citizen collaboration. It is important to have everyone's commitment to take care of streets, sidewalks, parks, to make good use of litter bins and containers, to pick up animal excrement so that together we can achieve the Ibi we desire." Special attention will be given to the cleaning and care of parks and children's play areas.
