Alicante has garnered another award for its virtual assistant within the artificial intelligence layer, ALI and AL21, which are being recognised as one of the best projects of the year by the Project Management Institute Levante. This consolidates the Alicante City Council project as a benchmark in modernising public administration, making it more accessible, efficient, and approachable.
The Councillor for Innovation, Antonio Peral, highlighted the achievement for the city, emphasising that it "values the City Council's work that improves the quality of life for our citizens. After a year of implementation, it has become essential for the public, resolving a total of 77,011 transactions and inquiries, and is one of the most powerful AI technological tools in public administration for citizen service."

The City Council will receive the award on February 5th at a gala held at the Colomina Palace in Valencia, where the ALI and AL21 project will be presented and shared among the more than 500,000 members of the Project Management Institute Levante Chapter. Councillor Antonio Peral will also provide an annual review of the municipal AI, highlighting its effective management as it "resolves over 232 transactions and inquiries daily for citizens." This presentation will be part of the 'Present and Future of Project Management: AI, Global Teams, and PMOs' programme.
Since its launch in January, ALI has managed 40,087 transactions and answered 36,924 inquiries. Among these, over 6,820 residency certificates have been issued, 3,229 aids processed, 2,492 online payments facilitated, more than 1,246 receipts downloaded, and assistance provided for the tax management of 1,602 taxes and the direct debit of 1,273 receipts, along with scheduling appointments for over a thousand people, among others.
The virtual assistant, Ali, was a finalist in the European Innovation Awards and has been included in the OECD's database of best practices. It also won the Innovative Public Procurement award from the Valencian Community. This digital tool, based on AI, allows citizens to swiftly access information and services offered by the Alicante City Council, integrated on the web at ali.alicante.es and on mobile devices, enabling the online management of procedures, inquiries, and requests, reducing waiting times and providing faster and more accurate responses.
Antonio Peral's review of the first year is very positive, noting that "ALI places the city at the technological forefront, representing Alicante City Council's commitment to modernising administration alongside AL21, offering a Neural Network for managing municipal services equipped with deep learning and pioneering integrated electronic signature application of the highest technological level."
These projects will continue to grow, and in 2025, improvements to ALI will include expanding available procedures, integrating with systems such as the cultural agenda and municipal hiring, and adapting the assistant for WhatsApp, as well as expanding language options to include German and French.
