The Unified Association of Civil Guards (AUGC) in Alicante expresses its 'outrage' over the 'lack of resources' faced by the Armed Institute's personnel in carrying out their security duties. They report that the Public Safety agents belonging to the Alicante Command do not have air conditioning in their facilities or vehicles. This comes as the province experiences the effects of a warm air mass from Africa, resulting in

the hottest May days since 1950.

Officers could be working in 40-degree Celsius heat due to the 'lack of budgetary credit for acquiring new air conditioners,' according to the association's complaint.

The AUGC has sent several letters to the Alicante Command Headquarters requesting the installation of air conditioning units in facilities lacking them, as well as the inspection and, if necessary, repair of all those found to be faulty, both in facilities and vehicles. Not all cars have air conditioning, the Headquarters acknowledges.

The AUGC's main grievance is that air conditioning cannot be repaired due to 'budget constraints' while, they assert with 'anger and indignation,' 'there is never a shortage of funds for other trivial matters, such as holding parades or military events that only result in a lack of personnel on the streets and unnecessary public spending.'

From AUGC, 'we do not understand how public servants can lack something as simple as a chair that complies with Occupational Risk Prevention regulations, or an air conditioning unit.' They find it 'shameful' that there is no money to provide good service to the citizen, but for other trivial matters, funds are always available.

Simply put, the Unified Association of Civil Guards in Alicante reminds that 'the obligation to comply with the Occupational Risk Prevention Law applies to everyone and is clearly outlined in the Law on Social Order Infractions/Sanctions,' and they urge civil guards to 'report any non-compliance in this regard to demand the corresponding responsibilities.'
