The grandstand that will preside over the Rambla de Méndez Núñez during the Hogueras parades in Alicante is nearing completion. This iconic structure, located near the Portal de Elche, heralds both the arrival of the festivities and the weekend's traffic disruptions.

The City Council has restricted vehicular traffic on this central road, in front of the Portal de Elche and at the intersection with Rafael Altamira Street, from 8 a.m. this Thursday, also prohibiting parking until the same time on Sunday, June 8.

Traffic disruptions and restrictions will extend to other areas of downtown Alicante starting Friday afternoon, due to the pre-Hogueras parades, the speech, and the ninot parade. The Florida Sur neighbourhood will also be affected by the mascletà this Sunday.

Cuts in traffic at Plaza de España

The Hogueras events for the weekend will kick off this Friday, June 6, with the 'Inici de Festa'. The 'Música per a una Festa' concert will be held near Plaza de España, featuring over a thousand musicians performing various pasodobles such as 'Josep Amand Tomàs'.

Traffic disruptions will affect Alcoi Avenue and Plaza de España with Pintor Murillo Street from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., along with parking bans on Alcoi Avenue from General Prim Street to Plaza de España until 11:30 p.m.

Another traffic disruption will occur at Plaza de España and the south roadway of Plaza Santa Teresa, between San Vicente and Díaz Moreu Streets, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. due to the tribute to the deceased foguerer and barraquer.

Restrictions for the speech and parade

After the 'Inici de Festa', the commissions will line up to march towards the speech, at the Town Hall Square. Consequently, there will be several traffic disruptions and parking bans along the official route.

The streets affected by the traffic restrictions include Plaza de España, San Vicente Street, Rambla de Méndez Núñez, Rafael Altamira Street, and Town Hall Square, along with adjacent roads, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. this Friday, June 6.

There will also be traffic diversions on Jaime II Avenue via Cuesta de la Fábrica Street, with pre-closures at Doctor Más Magro Roundabout and Indalecio Prieto Street, as well as on other roads like Primero de Rivera and Duque de Zaragoza, Teatro Street, and Calderón de la Barca, among others.

Additionally, parking is prohibited on San Fernando Street from 7 p.m. to 11:59 p.m., and the bus lane on Juan Bautista Lafora Avenue, in the lane near Postiguet Beach from 11 p.m.

Traffic disruptions for the ninot parade

Traffic restrictions in downtown Alicante on Saturday, June 7, for the ninot parade will begin at 8 a.m. The City Council reports sporadic traffic disruptions between 8 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Luceros Square, Alfonso el Sabio Avenue, Rambla de Méndez Núñez, Rafael Altamira Street, and Town Hall Square.

This traffic disruption will be permanent between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. on General Marvá Avenue, between Benito Pérez Galdós Street and Luceros Square, and on Federico Soto Avenue up to Maisonnave with Calvo Sotelo Square. It will extend to Alfonso el Sabio Avenue, Rambla de Méndez Núñez, Rafael Altamira Street, and Town Hall Square.

Traffic will also be diverted from Jaime II Avenue towards the city centre via San Vicente Street, and from Calderón de la Barca via Vicente Inglada Street. Additionally, occupying the bus lane on Juan Bautista Lafora Avenue is prohibited from 7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Mascletà in La Florida

The mascletà of the 'Pòlvora tot l'any' cycle near the Puerta de Alicante shopping centre will also involve traffic disruptions from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on José María Hernández Mata Avenue during Sunday, June 8.

Between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., traffic will be temporarily halted on Río Muni Street with Ocaña Road, in the change-of-direction lanes of José María Hernández Mata Avenue, at the height of Vega Street; and on Pegaso Street with Sociedad Cultural y Deportiva Florida Street.
