Arsenal could only manage a modest draw at Everton's ground three days before facing Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals. The 'Gunners' were riddled with absences, and their manager, Mikel Arteta, initially rested key players such as Bukayo Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli, and Timber. All of them took to the field in the second half, but it was not the best version of the London side. Arsenal took the lead with a goal from Trossard in the first half, but Everton equalised with a penalty converted by Ndiaye in the second half.
The visitors dominated the match but were affected by their numerous absences and the slow pace of players returning from injury, like Saka. The standout player of the last month for Arsenal, Mikel Merino, played in his usual midfield position rather than as a false 9, as he had been doing in recent matches. Additionally, the defence featured those most likely to play in the Champions League. Kiwior's presence was notable as he replaced Timber, who had been dealing with discomfort but is expected to play against the reigning continental champions.
With this draw, Arsenal practically says goodbye to the Premier League, as they are now 11 points behind Liverpool with one more game played. It seems that Arsenal's success this season depends on performing well in the Champions League, making the next two weeks crucial. It remains to be seen what conclusions Arteta will draw from this match to prepare for the encounter against Ancelotti's squad.
