A thief visited the Elche Police Station two days in a row. Unsatisfied with his first arrest, he attempted to burgle a villa in El Altet, but his plan failed. The owner caught him red-handed and recorded him on video. The officers reviewed the footage and recognised him: he had been detained the previous day and hadn't changed his clothes. The National Police conducted a search in the vicinity and arrested him. The detainee, a 42-year-old Spanish citizen, was brought before the Elche Magistrate's Court on duty.
The hunt for the alleged thief began when a neighbour alerted the CIMACC-091 room of the National Police after experiencing an attempted burglary at his home moments earlier. Officers from the Elche Citizen Security Brigade quickly arrived at the scene and interviewed the victim.
The homeowner stated that while inside his residence, he heard noises at the entrance door area and then saw a suspect who had already jumped the perimeter fence of his property and was forcing the lock on the access door.
Additionally, after confronting the perpetrator and having a brief argument, he recorded him with his mobile phone to try to provide evidence to the police for identification. After the video was reviewed by the officers, they recognised the perpetrator "without a shadow of a doubt" as the man who had been detained the previous day and was coincidentally wearing the same outfit.
