The National Police have arrested a man in Elda for robbing four shops in the city at knifepoint. The man allegedly used a knife to threaten employees with stabbing or even cutting off a finger if they resisted.
According to the security forces, the incidents occurred while the shops were open to the public, on Saturday afternoons, around the same time and very close to each other. The first robberies were carried out just five minutes apart.
It was following the report of these assaults that the officers began their investigations. Initial inquiries, based on the victims' statements, alerted the officers to the possibility that the same perpetrator had targeted these nearby shops.
In both cases, the perpetrator allegedly entered the shops with a knife in hand, threatening employees to take the cash from the register. This situation had caused great social alarm and was repeated again the following Saturday, around the same time.
In the following days, information was obtained regarding other attempted robberies that were not completed, although the arrested man had been monitoring other shops to allegedly rob them. Thus, after various inquiries and analysis of new witness statements, the officers identified the suspect.
In this way, a few days after the last incident, the officers managed to locate and arrest the suspect, as the alleged perpetrator of four robberies with intimidation committed with a knife, and he was brought before the duty court in the same locality.
