Arrested in Benidorm a drug trafficker wanted by Italian justice

The National Police have arrested in Benidorm (Alicante) a 38-year-old man, of Italian nationality, who had an active European arrest warrant issued by the Italian authorities for his role as a leader of a criminal group dedicated to drug trafficking.

Agents from the citizen security units became aware of the possible presence in the town of Benidorm of an Italian national who was subject to a judicial claim.

Therefore, they established a location and arrest operation in an apartment area that resulted in the identification and arrest of the fugitive after verifying that he was indeed the person sought.

According to the Italian requisition, the person sought is allegedly the leader of a criminal group involved in illicit drug trafficking and is under investigation for the recurrent purchase and distribution of marijuana and cocaine. The acts for which he is claimed carry a maximum expected penalty of 24 years. The detainee has been brought before the Central Instruction Courts of the National Court.
