The National Police have arrested a man in Albacete as the alleged perpetrator of identity theft for creating a fake social media profile with sexual content using the personal details of a female colleague.
Investigations began when the victim reported to the police station that she had discovered a fake profile in her name on a social network, which she had never created. The profile detailed her supposed sexual preferences or practices, prompting unsolicited emails from unknown men making sexual propositions.
The police later identified the connection points of the person managing this profile, revealing him to be a colleague of the victim. He accessed the profile from his home and his workplace, which coincided with the complainant's location. Consequently, he has been arrested as the alleged perpetrator of identity theft, which, in the case of fake social media profiles, is punishable under the Penal Code with imprisonment from three months to a year or a financial penalty of six to twelve months.
