Arrest of a Fugitive in Torrevieja Wanted in Romania Since New Year's Eve 2021

Justice authorities in Romania had been searching for a 36-year-old fugitive since New Year's Eve 2021 for drug trafficking. A concealment manoeuvre upon seeing a Civil Guard patrol while driving through Torrevieja with false documentation exposed him nearly three and a half years later, bringing an end to his extensive flight, as confirmed by the Alicante Command.

The incident occurred on April 30th in an urban area of Torrevieja, when a Civil Guard patrol noticed a car with Romanian plates occupied by two men, with the passenger attempting to hide his face with sunglasses while shrinking into the seat. Due to this evasive behaviour and abnormal driving, the officers decided to stop the vehicle.

During identification, the occupants presented the officers with an identity card and a driving licence, both from Romania. Thanks to the officers' expertise, who, after examining the documents, recognised them as fraudulent, the driver was arrested for a suspected offence of document forgery.

Faced with the detainee's refusal to provide his true identity, various inquiries were made, which proved fruitful. The suspect was subject to a European Arrest and Extradition Order (EAW) since December 31, 2021, for drug trafficking. His escape from Romanian justice ended in Torrevieja.

Now, the fugitive has been brought before the Court of Instruction No. 2 of Torrevieja for document forgery and the National Court regarding the extradition order, as reported by the Armed Institute.
