Bad news for Barcelona, their coach Hansi Flick, and especially for Ansu Fati, who has suffered another injury and can't catch a break. The forward, trained at La Masia and loaned to Brighton last season, has sustained a tear in the femoral biceps of his right leg during the morning training session held by the Blaugrana team at the Joan Gamper Sports City, and will be out for approximately a month.
This is the second injury Ansu Fati has suffered this season. The first, during preseason, was plantar fasciitis in his right foot, which prevented him from travelling with the rest of the squad on the tour of the United States and caused him to miss the first five LaLiga matches. It took him a month to debut, which put him at a disadvantage compared to his teammates. In fact, he is the fourth player with the fewest minutes in the Blaugrana squad (158), only ahead of Gavi (48), Christensen (26), and Andrés Cuenca (6). He has only started once, against Sevilla, and his numbers are poor, with no goals or assists.
If the Catalan club's forecasts are met and there are no setbacks or relapses in his recovery, Ansu Fati will miss at least six matches: against Celta, Las Palmas, Mallorca, and Betis in La Liga, and against Brest and Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
Just when he was beginning to see the light and it seemed he had left his string of injuries behind, the young 22-year-old forward has once again received terrible news that only worsens his personal ordeal. The succession of problems worries both the player and Barça, who would welcome his departure in the winter market to raise funds, and according to some reports, were in negotiations with Turkish club Fenerbahce.
This is not the first time Ansu Fati has torn his femoral biceps, although on the previous occasion the diagnosis was much more severe as the proximal tendon was also affected. In hindsight, his decision not to undergo surgery was a mistake, as it prolonged his recovery by almost a year and hindered the progression of the Bissau-Guinean-born forward in his career. A career that had already been disrupted two years earlier due to a serious knee injury that required him to undergo surgery up to four times.
The number of patients in the Blaugrana infirmary is increasing, with eight players already out under Flick's management: goalkeeper Ter Stegen, defenders Christensen and Araujo, midfielder Marc Bernal, and forwards Ferran Torres, Robert Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal, and the aforementioned Ansu Fati.
