The new president of ANFAC, Josep Maria Recasens, accompanied by ANFAC's general director, José López-Tafall, met today at La Moncloa with the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, along with the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, and the Secretary of State for Economic Affairs and G-20, Manuel de la Rocha.

The meeting aimed to convey to the Prime Minister the opportunity Spain and its Government have to lead the transformation of mobility and the need to continue strengthening public-private cooperation in this direction.

Recasens communicated to the Prime Minister the sector's willingness to continue promoting public-private collaboration in the deployment of electric mobility. Additionally, Recasens reminded Pedro Sánchez of the sector's concern regarding the tightening of emission reduction targets in the European Union starting from 2025, and thus, the advisability of adopting various measures to boost electrification.

Furthermore, he conveyed ANFAC's offer to forge a direct relationship and collaborate in developing a decarbonization strategy that maintains the importance of the sector and its jobs within the new mobility ecosystem being created.

The president of ANFAC expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for his willingness during the meeting and emphasized that "the reindustrialization of Spain's automotive sector with the arrival of electric, connected, and autonomous vehicles does not only involve manufacturing and assembling automobiles. It is a transversal transformation where vehicles will become a wealth axis for all sectors of society such as charging operators, technology companies, energy companies, and the entire ecosystem of start-ups and circular economy. The automotive industry offers itself to lead this creative process."

For Recasens, "Spain and the Government of Spain have a historic opportunity in new European mobility that will allow us to maintain and improve the competitiveness of Spanish industry and reinforce our jobs and factories. If we do not seize this opportunity, our European partners will create technological champions with whom we will find it difficult to compete."
