Carlo Ancelotti addressed the rumours suggesting his alleged intention to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season. "I will not decide the date of my departure from this club, never in my life. I know perfectly well that this day will come, but when it will come is not up to me. It could be tomorrow, in a year, or in five years," he stated at a press conference where he went further by expressing his wish to leave alongside Florentino Pérez when the newly renewed term of the Real Madrid president expires. "Florentino knows me very well, and I aim to reach the four years of Florentino and have a farewell together with all the affection in the world," he asserted ahead of the match against Salzburg, corresponding to the seventh round of the Champions League.
"It's an important match. We are close to closing the first part of the Champions League, we need to earn as many points as possible and see where we stand in the rankings. It's a vital match," said Carletto, acknowledging the slim chances his team has of avoiding the round of 16 and highlighted the improvement in defensive performance as the key to Real Madrid's success. "Offensively, we are performing very well, but defensively, we need to improve a lot. This will be the key to success this season. If we improve defensively, we will compete in all competitions," he argued.
Ancelotti said he feels "very loved in all aspects, by the fans, by the club, and at the media level" despite the criticism received, which he confines within the demands that accompany Real Madrid. "Sometimes it's a bit exaggerated following the trend, but I don't want to follow the trend; I want to be quite objective," he explained.
He analysed the evolution of Kylian Mbappé, who is now close to his best version and fully integrated into his team as a centre forward. "At first, he exchanged positions more with Vini because Vini also likes to play inside. Now they do it a bit less. This change was to fix Bellingham's position more offensively, who plays behind them; it wasn't to improve Mbappé's performance. It's working well, and we have to continue like this because you don't score goals from the outside. Sometimes it's enough with a run and a touch. He has done it many times because his best quality is the run he has," he said about the Frenchman.
Carletto believes that the improvement experienced by the Bondy star is largely due to clearing his mind and complicating things less during matches. "When there are difficult moments, you try everything, and you have to go back to basics. When a player can't bring out his best version, he tries to complicate plays, and sometimes it's not correct in the sense that you have to simplify it instead of complicating it," he summarised.
Finally, he denied feeling envious of the ease with which Manchester City enters the transfer market to try to solve the problems affecting Pep Guardiola's team while Real Madrid continues without making additions despite the plague of absences they suffer. "Not at all. We have a very complete squad, considering what happened last year when the absences increased our level of commitment. We are on time for it to happen again this year," he concluded.
