The elections for the rectorate of the University of Alicante are underway. Ahead of the candidacy presentations, Professor Amparo Navarro has reported on her 2020-2024 term.
She addressed the university community, as she mentioned in her interview with TodoAlicante.
This Tuesday, she made public the results of her previous electoral program, achieving 83.96% of her set objectives.
To detail each of the 18 sections, she highlighted the priorities for the three groups that make up the institution - PDI, PTGAS, and students. She designed a website showing the detailed management balance from December 2020 to last September. All this is available on the website www.cumplimientoamparo2020-2024.com, "open to all citizens," where more than a hundred established objectives and over 900 actions are displayed across the areas managed by her team.
Each of them shows the percentage achieved. "We have tried not to be triumphalist," Navarro emphasized regarding the pending accounts, which have also been analyzed to see "if it was our problem, exogenous, or an unforeseen issue." Above all, the professor of Financial and Tax Law expressed pride in the achievements documented in a "150-page" report, available on this website.
The results show a fulfillment rate of 78.21% in the area of Teaching and Research Staff (PDI); 88.56% in the Student area; and 80.40% for the Technical Management, Administration, and Services Staff (PTGAS). The UA professor commented that these results are due to the "significant progress" made in working conditions and task performance for the entire university community.
In the case of PDI, Navarro highlighted the result in the objective of 'Reducing temporality and consolidating staff,' which was fulfilled at 86%; or the objective aimed at 'Reducing and optimizing management tasks performed by PDI in teaching and research,' which reached 80%. The goal of 'Improving hiring mechanisms for unforeseen incidents requiring the replacement of faculty and research staff' was achieved at 95%.
In the Student area, the goal of Enhancing UA students' employability was achieved at 95%; the goal of 'Increasing and improving student participation in decision-making at the University of Alicante' was achieved at 94%; and the goal of 'Ensuring equal opportunities and integration' reached 96%. In the case of PAS, progress was made up to 80% in the goal of 'Improving working conditions for Administration and Services Staff' and 100% in achieving the objectives related to 'Balancing work, family, and personal life.'
As a result of the collective work of the entire university community, the professor of Financial and Tax Law presented various results confirming UA's potential on the international stage. In this regard, she mentioned the Shanghai Ranking, which places it in the 601-700 range, among the top 1,000 universities worldwide. Additionally, the World Best Value Universities Rankings 2025, a ranking of the best universities for international students, improved UA's ranking this year from the previous report's position of 1,360 to the current position of 796 among 8,060 universities analyzed from 69 countries.
Furthermore, Amparo Navarro highlighted the effort made in improving infrastructure, achieving "a plan for pending actions and investments on the university campus, in addition to mobilizing over 37.5 million euros in projects executed, tendered, or under development during the 2020-2024 period."
These actions will allow for the improvement and repair of sports facilities, as well as spaces like the library, and various buildings and pavilions on the San Vicente del Raspeig campus. She also noted that thanks to the university community's collaboration, 4.9 million out of the total 73 million accumulated in various departments, institutes, and faculties in 2021 were released for urgent building repairs at the discretion of the deans.
The UA professor explained that, although the Multiannual Financing Plan for Valencian universities was not achieved, an increase in the Consell's contribution of six million euros annually was secured in negotiations. Funding was also obtained from the Ministry of Health to address the necessary works for the newly implemented Medicine degree, without affecting investments allocated to other spaces or buildings on the university campus.
