New step in the race for the Rectorship of the University of Alicante. The professor of Financial and Tax Law, Amparo Navarro, officially announced her candidacy this Thursday by submitting it electronically to renew her position in the elections to be held on November 27 and 28.
The candidate was accompanied by several professors and students at the time of submitting the documentation. After that, she announced her intention to renew the mandate to "consolidate the transformation process that the University of Alicante started four years ago."
According to the professor, the academic institution has experienced a "positive evolution" in recent years, which she details in different areas: ranking positioning, transparency, teaching quality, generation of new degrees and prestigious titles. Navarro also referred to "improvements" in "working conditions for the entire university community and in student demands."
In this regard, the candidate for rector of the University of Alicante insists that "the university of the future needs conviction, calmness, much firmness, and a clear defense of the public character" of the academic institution, as well as "its social and economic function in favor of the province."
She also adds that it is "fundamental" to advance in "quality training and an educational offer that positions the University at the forefront of highly demanded and projected degrees," while "it is necessary to consolidate the new degrees initiated in the last four years that still require special support and care for their full implementation."
UA staff and students
The professor, aspiring to the rectorship for a second term, also mentioned her commitment to "continue working on improving the working conditions of the Teaching and Research Staff (PDI) and the Technical and Administrative Services Staff (PTGAS) to continue improving the service provided to society in the form of training, research, and knowledge transfer."
Navarro also emphasized that the UA "must offer higher education that has as its objective quality employability, but also the education of citizens educated in values linked to culture, sports, critical thinking, and social responsibility."
In this line, she defended "improving student access conditions, allowing a high level of training and at the same time helping those students who have greater economic or social difficulties to access higher education."
Infrastructure and campus expansion
After presenting her candidacy for rector of the UA, Amparo Navarro pointed to "another pending challenge": expanding and renewing the current campus of San Vicente del Raspeig. She detailed that in the last term more than 37.5 million euros have been invested in executed projects, tendered or in development for improvement or renovation of infrastructure.
"With this injection of UA's own funds structural problems in several buildings have been addressed, energy efficiency has been improved, and self-sufficiency in this area has been pursued with the aim of achieving significant savings in current expenses and having more resources for new investments," she highlighted.
Navarro also listed other actions carried out such as a general diagnosis of infrastructure and spaces, actions "on the most urgent needs" and in drafting projects to be executed in the future, "in the short and medium term," referring to the future expansion towards the west campus to "meet the current space demands of the various faculties."
The candidate's balance concludes with a mention of the Multiannual Financing Plan for which "work has been done" with political authorities to have this tool that "provides stability and sufficiency to meet the needs of the University of Alicante."
